Construction

Beginning April 5, 2023, construction will begin on the new elementary school that has been in the planning stages for nearly four years.   Fences will begin to be erected on Wednesday, April 5, around Franklin Avenue to allow staging for the construction and preparation of the land.   This construction will cause some inconveniences for students, staff, and families over the next two years, but in the end, our neighborhood will have a brand new facility on Franklin Street where our students can learn in a state-of-the-art building and our Abner Gibbs and Franklin Avenue families can join as one to enjoy activities in a school with ample space.

These are some of the changes that will be made due to construction:

  • Art and music classes will be held in the classrooms.
  • Arrival and dismissal areas will be changed.  Fourth grade will now enter  and dismiss in the front of the building.
  • Parking will be affected, as our teachers' parking lot will be closed.  New spaces will be created and parking will be limited.  We ask that all caregivers abide by the parking laws and use extra precautions while driving in the area.
  • Our outdoor recess space will be reduced to the north side of the building and limited to the basketball courts and some green areas.

We want to thank you in advance for your patience and flexibility as we navigate this new project.  We will keep you informed about changes and the progress of our new school.
