Dear Students and Families,
A new school year brings new opportunities to learn, grow, and achieve. Whether your child is entering school for the very first time or preparing for their final year before graduation, we are excited to welcome every student back to our classrooms. Our teachers, administrators, and staff have been working throughout the summer to prepare for a successful school year, and we can't wait to see our schools filled with the energy and enthusiasm of our students once again.
This year, our district remains focused on two important goals: improving student achievement and increasing student attendance. Students learn best when they are in school, engaged in meaningful learning, and supported by caring adults at home and at school. By working together, we can ensure every student can reach their full potential.
In addition to these goals, we will continue to strengthen literacy instruction, expand our capacity to support positive student behavior, enhance inclusive instructional practices, and provide safe, clean, and welcoming schools where every child feels a sense of belonging. Together, we will continue developing the skills outlined in our WPS Portrait of a Graduate, preparing students for success in careers, college, and life.
Important Dates
Monday, August 31: First day of school for students in Grades 1–12.
Tuesday, September 8: First day of school for Kindergarten and Preschool students.
Tuesday, June 16: Last day of school (if no emergency closure days are used).
The 2026–2027 School Calendar is available on the WPS website. Please note the revised start and end times for Westfield High School and Westfield Technical Academy, as well as the addition of five early release days dedicated to professional learning for our staff. These opportunities allow our educators to continue strengthening their skills so they can provide the highest quality instruction for every student.
Staying Connected
A strong partnership between home and school is one of the greatest predictors of student success. We encourage parents and caregivers to stay connected with teachers, principals, and school staff throughout the year. Your involvement, encouragement, and communication make a tremendous difference in your child's educational experience. We also value your feedback and look forward to working together to create schools where every student feels safe, supported, challenged, and inspired to succeed.
Transportation and Student Schedules
Transportation information will be emailed to families on Monday, August 24. If you do not receive your child's bus information, please contact the Transportation Office at (413) 572-6599.
Student schedules will also be available in PowerSchool today. If you need assistance accessing your account, please contact your child's school.

We are pleased to once again offer free breakfast and lunch to all students attending Westfield Public Schools. Nutritious meals help students stay focused, healthy, and ready to learn each day.
