Good afternoon, We are excited to announce that Westfield Public Schools will again be offering tuition-free, full-day preschool for Westfield residents for the 2024-2025 school year. We will have full-day preschool programs at Southampton Road School, Highland School, Munger Hill School and the new elementary school. If your child will be 3 or 4 years old by September 1, 2024 and you are interested in entering your child's name in the preschool lottery, please complete this form. If you have more than one child eligible for preschool, please complete a separate form for each child. Westfield’s public schools are hosting a “Countdown to Kindergarten” information and registration night in the Westfield Middle School cafeteria, 30 West Silver St., on Tuesday, Feb. 6. Families of prospective kindergartners may attend anytime between 6 and 7:30 p.m., and may bring the kids. The snow date is Feb. 8. This Wednesday's theme is Dapper Day!

On January 23 and 24, WIS counselors will be presenting one lesson on suicide prevention entitled Signs of Suicide in each 6th grade homeroom. This curriculum was developed by Sandy Hook Promise and has been used in the Westfield Public Schools for the past 4 years. Your student will be coming home today with two handouts in their backpacks explaining next week's lesson. If you have any questions or would not like your student to participate, please contact the school.

Elementary school teachers in Westfield are looking to partner with professionals in the community to enhance their science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) curriculum this spring through the Adopt-a-Classroom program. At the School Committee meeting on Dec. 18, Westfield Intermediate School Principal Gregory Miller introduced some of the students in the newly formed peer leadership club to talk about their school. Miller said the idea for the club came from reading interventionist Joann Roselli, the peer leadership club adviser, who asked what could be done for the students who have been achieving academically, doing the right thing in the classroom and who show a lot of potential for leadership. Research shows that missing 10 percent of the school, or about 18 days in most school districts, negatively affects a student’s academic performance. That’s just two days a month and that’s known as chronic absence.

Hello WIS Community. Items from the Meadow Farms fundraiser are going to be available for pick up from 2:00pm - 4:00pm at WIS on Monday, December 11. Small orders may be able to be brought home with students, but orders with multiple items will need to be picked up in this timeframe as there is no space at school to keep these items frozen. All efforts made to pick up the orders is greatly appreciated. Please reach out to the school if arrangements cannot be made to pick up your order. Thank you.

School principals and business leaders brainstormed about how they can help students prepare for careers at the Nov. 28 meeting of the Westfield Education to Business Alliance.
