Dear WMS Families, Thank you for your attention to our new dismissal process. We have been able to dismiss all students in just under 10 minutes on most days. This is excellent timing for such a large school. Beginning next week, this will become slightly quicker for parent pick-ups, as we are making some slight adjustments to our indoor routine with students. I am writing with some important reminders: -All parent pick-ups must join the vehicle line up. Vehicles cannot park in parking spaces. -All vehicles must wait for the vehicle line to be dismissed. Vehicles cannot exit the line and pass other vehicles. -If your child has not arrived by the time vehicles are dismissed, you may loop around the pick up line an additional time, if needed. -Please maintain respectful communication with staff and administrators who are keeping our students safe. We recognize this takes a few extra minutes, but the reason for this new process is to ensure student safety in the parking lot. Thank you for your assistance in keeping our school community safe. While we were expecting a cooler day on Friday, September 8, the latest forecast from the National Weather Service predicts that the Heat Index tomorrow will remain between 95-100 degrees. The Heat Advisory also remains in effect. As a result, Westfield Public Schools will dismiss staff and students early again tomorrow. High School students will be dismissed at 11:00 a.m., Middle and Intermediate School students at 11:30 a.m., and Elementary School students at 12:15 p.m. Fort Meadow Early Childhood Center will be closed. Hello Families, We are excited to announce that all back-to-school forms and medical information will be completed through the PowerSchool Parent Portal and SNAP Student School Health Portal this fall rather than using paper forms. You should have received 2 emails with instructions about how to do this today. If you did not receive two emails, please check your SPAM folder. These temperatures make teaching and learning especially difficult in the majority of our buildings that are not air conditioned. For that reason, Westfield Public Schools staff and students will be dismissed early the next two days. High schools will dismiss at 11:00 a.m., Intermediate and Middle Schools at 11:30 a.m., and Elementary Schools at 12:15 p.m. Fort Meadow Early Childhood Center will be closed on Wednesday and Thursday as well. Seeking donations! Ms. Modestow, one of our 8th grade ELA teachers, manages and oversees the WMS community closet, which is visited frequently throughout the year. If there is a student in need of clothing, shoes, school supplies, or hygiene products, we have them covered! However, we cannot do this without YOU! We are seeking the following donations, which can be dropped off at the WMS main office: -Boys' underwear-small, medium, and large (new) -Girls' underwear-xsmall, small, medium, and large (new) -Sneakers-size 9 and smaller (gently used) -Boys' athletic shorts (gently used) -Boys' and girls' sweatpants (gently used) -Magnetic labels which can be written on (smaller than 1" in height) Thank you for your support!
