WVS Students explore the Children's Library at the Westfield Athenaeum accompanied by their teachers.

On December 2nd, Westfield Virtual School students of all grade levels had the opportunity to visit the Westfield Athenaeum with classmates and teachers.  As part of our efforts to provide virtual students with in-person social and enrichment opportunities, the Westfield Virtual School's PBIS team has begun planning a series of winter-friendly events for the coming months.

For this event, students and their families were welcomed to the activity room at the athenaeum, where Principal Dr. Osborn read The Book With No Pictures by author B.J. Novak.   We then had a talk with Olivia Eberli, Head of Youth Services at the athenaeum and were led on a tour of the Children's Library.  Older students had the opportunity to break off in a group and learn about the teen section.  At the end of the tour, students had the opportunity to sign up for a library card if they did not already have one.

We concluded this event with time to explore the selection of books, games and activities throughout the library, as well as participate in an optional craft.

This event had a great turnout of students of all ages, with tons of fun while learning.  For students attending virtually, the story and tour were livestreamed.  Virtual attendees were also able to sign up for a library card.

Stay tuned for more updates on future events planned for our students.
