MCAS Math

Dear WTA parents, guardians, staff, and students,

On Tuesday, May 16 and Wednesday, May 17, all Grade 10 students will be taking the Mathematics portion of the state required MCAS. In Massachusetts, all students must pass their high school MCAS exams to receive a high school diploma.

On May 16 and 17, students in Grade 10 should arrive at school no later than 7:15 a.m. as testing will begin promptly at 7:30 a.m. To provide a secure testing environment, students in grades 9, 11, and 12 will have a three-hour delayed start and should plan to arrive at school at 10:15 a.m. However, our buses will run at regular times. Students in grades 9, 11, and 12 that arrive at school before 10:15 a.m. should report to the cafeteria for a directed study.

We also want to remind parents and students that calculators are allowed during Session 2 of the Math MCAS.  Calculators are embedded into the TestNav program; however, a handheld calculator is often easier to use.  Students that own a scientific or graphing calculator may want to bring it with them on May 17th.

We realize that MCAS testing can be very stressful for students. In preparation, students are encouraged to eat a good breakfast, get at least 8 hours of sleep, and try their best on this exam. Please note that breakfast will be available in the cafeteria before school, as usual. Students also need to make sure that their Chromebooks are fully charged for testing purposes.

If you have any questions or concerns about this year's MCAS testing, please do not hesitate to call me directly at 413-572-6533 or email me at s.czaporowski@schoolsofwestfield.org.

Sincerely,

Stefan Czaporowski
