Eleven seniors at Westfield High School are the finalists for this year’s Bronze Tablet. The Bronze Tablet is awarded annually at the Senior Assembly to that member of the graduating class “who has done the most for the welfare, good name, and progress of Westfield High School.” That student’s name is permanently engraved on a bronze tablet and added to the plaque, which stands prominently in the main entrance to the school near the auditorium. The winner is determined each year by a vote of the senior class from a list of students nominated by the faculty. A student must receive three nominations from faculty members in order to qualify for the student ballot. https://www.masslive.com/westfieldnews/2023/05/finalists-honored-to-be-nominated-for-westfield-high-schools-bronze-tablet.html

Local sports fans will have to wait a bit longer to find out who will enjoy bragging rights after play was suspended Tuesday in a highly-anticipated matchup of two area high school softball teams, Westfield and Greenfield, due to rain. Westfield scored the game’s only run, thus far, when Ali LaPanne crossed home plate on a wild pitch in the bottom of the second inning. LaPanne led off the inning with a base on balls. She advanced to second and third bases when Sophie Svantesson and C.C. Toporowski each walked, respectively. Westfield pitcher Shea Hurley struck out seven batters, and allowed one hit an walk through 2.1 innings before play was help up in the top of the third inning. Westfield entered the game with an 8-1 record, having won five straight. The Bombers only blemish on the season is a 5-1 loss to Hampshire on April 14.
