Arbor Day

Westfield Technical Academy horticulture teacher Nathan Sperry and his students were on Lloyd’s Hill Road this week, planting trees for a Tree City USA Arbor Day project in conjunction with the DPW’s land and natural resources deputy superintendent Scott Hathaway.

Sperry said the students planted two large Jefferson Elm trees resistant to Dutch Elm disease, and a large magnolia tree to replace trees that had been lost to the construction on the road. He said it was a good opportunity to go to the nursery and select and plant larger trees than they normally would.
