Special Education Updates

January 25, 2023

Dear Westfield Parents of Special Education students,

I hope you and your family had a nice holiday season. I would like to provide with our monthly update.

Although we have not been able to hire additional school psychologists, we continue to have two Westfield school psychologists and two independently contracted school psychologists assessing students. They continue to focus on initial evaluations and then reevaluations per the district’s conversation with the Department of Secondary and Elementary Education.

Our district, along with many other districts and private schools, are experiencing a shortage of psychologists which has impacted compliance deadlines. We apologize for the backlog in testing and continue to recruit by posting the positions and contacting vendors/outside agencies to fill remaining positions.

The next SEPAC meeting will be held on February 2nd at 6:30 pm at Tiger’s Pride (Westfield Technical Academy). The topic will be “Review of Parental Rights”.  This meeting will be held in-person and virtually.
